Welcome Message

SINCE I AM HALF-BILINGUAL, I SELECTED THE TITLE OF THIS BLOG FROM A FRENCH TERM FOR MASTURBATION. WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER HERE ARE ESSENTIALLY RANDOM ORGASMS OF THOUGHT THAT HIT ME IN MOMENTS OF INSPIRATION. YES, SOMETIMES IT'S A BIT MESSY, BUT IT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL SO GOOD.

Gay Games VII Chicago 2006 Begins

So today begins Gay Games VII in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. I am lucky enough to live in the heart of the Lakeview East neighborhood of Chicago, better known as "Boystown." Even as people were starting to arrive today, you could sense the energy and excitement out on the street, and although I did not go out to the clubs tonight (saving my energy for the rest of the week), I have already heard from friends that everywhere is packed!

It has been interesting to me to observe various acquaintances' reactions to the Games being here, from excitement to disinterest to curiosity, and since we are gay, a fair share of criticism. Yes, inevitably if there is an event of any kind for any purpose at any place at any time, some of us will criticize it. It's in our gay genes like lying about our weight on our online profiles.

Personally, I try to take a more realistic approach to observing these activities. On the one hand (contrary to the arguments of the most enthusiastic supporters), the Gay Games probably won't result in major earth-shattering steps forward for equal rights, simply because those who will be paying attention are mostly those who already agree with us (though there's some good potential to make some good impressions along the way). On the other hand (contrary to the arguments of the most adamant criticizers), the Games probably won't do any more than anything else we do to ostracize or separate us from mainstream society (though it may give a louder voice to some of us who tend to do that in daily life anyway).

I think a balanced approach to all of this is simply to remember that, as with any and every activity thought up, organized, implemented, and attended by gay men, there is but one simple truth: "It's ultimately about sex."

Yes, for all the talk of politics, activism, inclusion, and equality, the Gay Games really are held as an opportunity to have lots of parties, dancing, and drinking, all of which lead to the ultimate goal of sex. Even the competitions themselves will primarily be attended by guys who want to check out muscular athletes and, if they are lucky, take one (or more) home each night.

So, in the true spirit of the Gay Games, as I have offered various photos in the days leading up to the games, here are many more attractive athletes presented so that we may each do our part to help this week accomplish the greatest amount of good possible...

And, of course, my favorite athletic event outside of the bedroom....Twister!
